London 2012 Home Head Journey

Why we're getting behind Jeanette Kwakye and London 2012.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local runner, Jeanette Kwakye as she attempts to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.

Jeanette Kwakye trains locally at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in North London. Jeanette has been running since the age of 14 for local club Woodford Green with Essex Ladies and, by the age of 25 had already broken the British indoor record which had stood since 1986, at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She then went on to become the first British woman to make a 100m final since Heather Oakes in 1984.

‘I'm really grateful to Sytner Chigwell and BMW for their support,’ said Jeanette Kwakye. ‘It's tough trying to qualify for an Olympic place and it's a big help knowing that they are behind us, helping to raise funds and awareness. It's also fantastic having a brand new BMW 3 Series Convertible from now until the end of the 2012 Games. There's a lot of traveling to heats, competitions and promotional events so it's great being able to arrive there in style.’

Adrian Hill, Managing Director at Sytner Chigwell, said: ‘This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get really involved with the 2012 Games. Our staff and customers are keen to support London 2012 so we're really happy to be backing Jeanette - especially since she's a very successful local girl and an existing customer of the dealership.
